Where Should You Go To Donate Your Eggs?
If you have a lot of time and are very self motivated you could go the independent, classified ad route. You could read hundreds of ads looking for that special someone and chose 10 or so to answer. You could meet in person or chat on the phone with a few recipient couples who will tell you their story and then you can chose who you feel would ‘deserve’ your help. Hopefully you are comfortable talking about money and payments too. You then would be required to walk yourself through the egg donation process and if there is a glitch hopefully someone will be able to answer your questions and make sure you are on the right path again.
You could sign on with an IVF program where all the egg donors are compensated the same and their profiles are compiled into a fat notebook for intended parents to flip through during an appointment and decide on you…not you on them. You would be educated on the medical process but you may not have the warm experience you were hoping for! An IVF clinic may share minimal information about you and perhaps no photos at all and the experience can all be very, well, clinical!
An egg donor agency would first and foremost educate you about the entire egg donation process before you even committed to signing on with them. You would have the option to share enough about yourself to allow the intended parents to chose the best fit for them and their family and you would also have the opportunity to know a little bit more about the intended parents. You would be supported by the donor agency every step of the way and they would be in charge of all the negotiating for you regarding compensation, travel, and timing. Truly it’s nice to have someone who knows the egg donation process and that you can have a wonderful relationship with.
Have you been an egg donor before? Would you like to share your experience with us? Did you go through an IVF clinic, independent or through an egg donation agency? We would love to hear from you!
