Infertility Looks Different for Everyone: Honoring All Paths to Parenthood During NIAW

As we approach National Infertility Awareness Week (NIAW), observed from April 20–26, 2025, it's essential to recognize that the journey to parenthood is unique for each individual. This year's theme, #ALLinFertility, emphasizes inclusivity and acknowledges the diverse experiences of those facing infertility.

Embracing Diverse Paths to Parenthood

Infertility affects 1 in 6 people globally, and yet the many ways people build their families are not always widely understood. For many, third-party reproduction options such as egg donation and surrogacy become integral parts of their family-building journey. These paths are not just medical procedures; they are deeply personal decisions filled with hope, resilience, and love.

At Fertility Source Companies, we’ve supported thousands of intended parents through this process. Whether due to medical infertility, LGBTQ+ family-building, or being a single parent by choice, third-party reproduction can offer new possibilities for those ready to grow their families in a non-traditional—but equally valid—way.

Navigating the Emotional Landscape

Choosing to grow your family through surrogacy or donor conception can be a beautiful and hopeful step, but it’s not always emotionally simple. For many intended parents, this path comes after years of uncertainty, loss, or medical challenges. Others may face unexpected grief around the idea of not having a genetic connection to their child. Even feelings of guilt, fear, or worry about how others might perceive their decision can arise. At the same time, there’s often profound gratitude for the individuals—donors and surrogates—who help make parenthood possible.

All of these emotions can exist at once, and that’s completely normal. Seeking support, finding community, or simply giving yourself permission to feel everything you’re feeling is a powerful part of the journey.

Sharing Your Story

In the spirit of #ALLinFertility, we invite you to reflect on your own path to parenthood. Sharing your story can be a meaningful way to connect with others and to find solidarity in shared experiences. Whether you're just beginning your journey or have already built your family, your voice matters. Consider participating in NIAW by sharing your story on social media using the hashtag #ALLinFertility. By coming together and embracing the diversity of fertility journeys, we can foster a more inclusive and supportive community for all.
