Finding a Surrogate in Colorado
Fertility Source Companies provides an expert team of professionals to provide support and assistance throughout your surrogacy journey. We will guide you during each step of getting matched with the best gestational surrogate to carry your baby. Our team will help guide you through each step of the process, including the initial application process, how surrogates are screened, and what to look for in selecting a surrogate.
Surrogacy Laws in Colorado
There are no federal mandates that govern surrogacy laws; the laws pertaining to surrogacy vary from state to state. Gestational surrogacy (i.e., hiring a person who is not the biological parent of the baby to carry the pregnancy) is very complex legally. Gestational surrogacy is permitted in Colorado, but it is largely unregulated. IPs may pursue a pre-birth order (PBO) to obtain legal parentage of a baby born after gestational surrogacy.
Because of the legal complexities, it’s important to seek legal consultation with a licensed fertility attorney in Colorado and become familiar with the local surrogacy laws. Although Fertility Source Companies never gives legal advice, we are here to help point you in the right direction. We have extensive resources to assist IPs in navigating the legal complexities involved in contracting with a gestational carrier in Colorado.
Surrogate Costs & Fees in Colorado
Fertility Source Companies charges an initial agency fee of $30,000 fee (paid in installments), as well as a base surrogacy fee of $65,000 for Colorado residents. Other fees paid to the Gestational Carrier include a monthly fee of $350, an embryo transfer fee, a maternity clothing fee, and other miscellaneous costs. The total expense usually ranges between $100,000 and $125,000. Learn more about the breakdown of surrogacy costs and fees.
How Surrogates Are Screened in Colorado
All surrogates are screened to ensure they are well-qualified for surrogacy. These screenings include but are not limited to medical tests, physical exams, mental health evaluations, criminal background checks, partner screening, and more. At Fertility Source Companies, we also evaluate the potential surrogate’s level of commitment and perform in-home evaluations of their family interactions to ensure your baby is carried in a stable environment. An on-staff RN reviews past pregnancies to ensure there were no complications, and healthcare and mental health professionals perform medical and psychiatric testing.
Surrogacy FAQs for Intended Parents
Yes, Fertility Source Companies offers IPs several options for financing the cost of surrogacy and egg donation.
The medical bills incurred for the pregnancy and childbirth may be covered by the surrogate’s medical insurance unless there are exclusions. Any co-pays or other out-of-pocket medical expenses are covered by the IPs.
A fertility clinic doctor will create an embryo using in-vitro fertilization (IVF) and later transfer the embryo to a surrogate's uterus.
A gestational carrier (i.e., surrogate) carries a pregnancy for a couple or individual. Being a surrogate has been described as one of life's most rewarding experiences. Surrogates and IPs share a bond that few other relationships can emulate; in many cases, these relationships develop into lifelong friendships. In addition to the emotional gratification of helping a couple struggling with infertility, there are many other benefits, such as compensation for living and out-of-pocket expenses, as well as an exceptionally generous monetary payment plan.
Surrogate Requirements in Colorado
The requirements for surrogates include a strict age requirement (i.e., between the ages 21 and 43), and a history of at least one healthy pregnancy. Surrogates must be citizens of the U.S., non-smokers, and non-drug users, with exemplary physical and mental health histories. They must also have a stable home environment and reliable transportation. Learn more about our surrogate requirements.
The Surrogacy Process
Acceptance into Fertility Source Companies’ surrogacy database includes many steps, including:
The initial application to become a surrogate candidate
Medical records submission
A variety of screening tests to ensure you are mentally and physically healthy
A background check to ensure there is no history of legal problems
Once you have been approved, you will be added to our roster of available surrogates. The next step is to be matched with the intended parents. After you are matched, there are more steps, including:
A comprehensive physical exam at the IPs fertility clinic
Meeting with an attorney to sign the surrogacy agreement
Taking a series of fertility hormone self-injections to prepare you for pregnancy
Undergoing the embryo transfer
Getting a pregnancy test and ultrasound
Seeing your OB healthcare provider during your pregnancy and delivery.
After the birth of the baby, you will have completed your gestational surrogacy journey, having made a huge impact and a lifelong difference in the life of a person or a couple who were otherwise unable to have a child. Learn more about the surrogacy process.

Surrogate FAQs
Colorado surrogates are compensated with a base fee of $50,000 for their time, effort, and costs incurred from living expenses.
Fertility Source Companies pays surrogates in 8 monthly installments, beginning when the fetal heart rate is noted by a healthcare provider. The balance is due within 7 days of delivery.
We are unable to accept surrogates who are on welfare or receiving public assistance (including Section 8 Housing Assistance) because reimbursement for these programs may become restricted due to the amount of surrogacy income you would receive.
