The Egg Donation Process
Over the course of approximately three weeks, egg donors self-inject hormones to stimulate the production of multiple eggs. During the process, blood and ultrasound tests are performed to confirm the maturity level of the eggs and whether or not they’re ready to be extracted from the ovaries. Once ready, a painless procedure called egg retrieval is performed to collect the eggs. Patients are sedated during this outpatient procedure. Most donors can return to their normal work schedule the next day.
